The Centre for Historical Studies and Research on Military Architecture in Piedmont was established in 1995 by Regional Law no. 48 dated 10^th November 1992. It is concerned with the archiving, research and historical study of materials and themes relating to military architecture.

It further seeks to establish relations with other bodies of the Piedmont Region, as well as other Italian regions and foreign institutes in order to exchange knowledge on the fortifications and defence systems of the past still standing today, as well as to promote initiatives and conventions on a range of specific topics, release publications and curate exhibitions.
